Did Retailers in Lebanon Outgrow Christmas?

Every year, starting the month of November, a new breathtaking Christmas display is weekly inaugurated in the world; this year was no exception. It all started with Harrods’ Disney inspired Christmas window display, and soon the trend caught up to Paris’ Printemps and other luxury retail stores.

I was absolutely sure that Lebanon would be no exception, so I headed downtown with the thrill of finding the perfect Christmas display. My hunt started off at the newly opened Gap store at the Beirut Souks, and ended in front of Louis Vuitton’s window display. To my disappointing surprise, very rare were the stores who put in an extra effort this year to try and seduce potential clients. I can’t deny that there were a few eye-catching displays such as Louis Vuitton’s, which is known for its theatricality, in addition to Louboutin’s magical display of shoes. However, that little touch of Christmas was missing in window displays. Fortunately, Beirut Souks’ lovely decoration and activities held in the afternoon, compensated the lack of Christmas spirit in some of the shops’ windows.

Take a look at the displays below
